Realise it because it is too late... Gum Disease
Persistent swollen, red or bleeding gums, tooth sensitivity, and bad breath are among the warning signs of periodontal (gum) disease.
Periodontal disease is often silent, meaning symptoms may not appear until an advanced stage of the disease.
Signs and Symptoms
Warning signs of periodontal disease include the following:
- Red, swollen or tender gums or other pain in your mouth
- Bleeding while brushing, flossing, or eating hard food
- Gums that are receding or pulling away from the teeth, causing the teeth to look longer than before
- Loose or separating teeth
- Pus between your gums and teeth
-Sores in your mouth
-Persistent bad breath
-A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
-A change in the fit of partial dentures
What happen inside our teeth and gum??
Periodontitis causes permanent tooth and bone damage. Tissue surrounding the teeth is destroyed beyond repair generating problems of sensitive teeth and decay on the root surface. The gums recede, exposing more and more of the roots until the teeth become loose and can eventually fall out.
Causes leading to gum disease
Dental plaque is the main cause of gum disease (gingivitis) and periodontitis.
Dental plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth and gums. When it is allowed to remain for too long, it turns into a hard substance called tartar (or calculus). Tartar should only be removed by your dentist.
Can it be cure??
Yes! it ALWAYS DEPENDS ON YOURSELF AND THERE ARE ALWAYS WAYS TO OVERCOME PROBLEMS.
So,gum disease (gingivitis) can be prevented and treated by following these oral hygiene procedures:
Anyone with gum disease (gingivitis) should visit their dentist or hygienist for a full assessment of their teeth and gums.
1. Brush your teeth and gums regularly, twice a day for at least 2 minutes.
2. Use a good quality toothbrush and change it every 3 months.
3. Use an antibacterial toothpaste, such as Elgydium Anti-Plaque, which is proven to be effective against the key organisms that cause gum disease (gingivitis).(*of course you can use any other toothpaste as the key point is the way you brush your teeth)
4. Floss on a daily basis. Find out how to floss.
5. Use an effective antibacterial mouthwash such as Eludril.
6. Always try to eat a healthy balanced diet including fresh fruit and vegetables every day.
7. If you are a smoker, stop! Smoking can make gum disease worse.
8. Visit your dentist/hygienist regularly.
SO remember to always take care your teeth and realize this before your teeth fells out! I also realize these only after I make a research on dentistry before I went to an interview for a dentistry scholarship. Have beautiful teeth will to have more confidence so have a regular check up to get the best smile you can get.^^
