Sharing> The Interview for USM medical!
Hey guys I am back! and Back from Kelantan Kubang Kerian medical school in USM. Of course you would not want to miss a thing about this, it was fun!
Haha, now I am here and would like to share this interview experience to all of you who's going to the interview.It's good rite?>< Well actually I hope I can jot everything's down before it get loss somewhere in my brain, and you would not want that to happen! The preparation before the big day
Please remember do not prepare last minute unless you don't care of getting a place in USM. If you do not then better don't go because when you get that place there would not be any reject button for you to reject especially the critical courses (such as medicine, dentistry and pharmacy) Not all critical subjects are situated in Kelantan, for pharmacy it was situated in USM main campus in Miden.Well I am not sure about the other course such as engineering(in Nibong Tebal)for the interview cause I am with Medicine.XP
Well before the interview please go and have a tour about
1. Usm history
2. The syllables you are going to get your hands on
3. since we are talking about medical so APEX status stands in the way. Search for it!
4. At least know who is the chancellor of USM
5. Get to know why it is so famous.(you better ready 6 for safe)
6. Have a look at how your future career beholds.(the fun, the pain, and the challenge)Just have a look and trust me you will have your eyes open on the future behold Malaysian doctor's future.Maybe you will change your mind and knows why you actually choose medicine.(not because of forcing by parents, but the real truth of discovering your real self something you really like)
7. Get hands on the latest news in medicine(In my year there were cases where students getting HO commit suicide)
8. Find out how medicine change human's life from every aspects(for example technology and vaccines)
*Ready a song for yourself because some of the interviewers would like you to sing and I am serious! My friends that apply for pharmaceutical course gets that question and one of my friend actually answer that: I can sing a song for you but I have no potential.Some even ask them whether they will prepare a concert for their Idols in Malaysia. LOL!

Just bring a copy of photostat copies just in case
However it is depends on yourself to prepare or not to prepare that much, but the question during the interview is really random, so if you really what to feel good during the interview you better be prepared. Its always better to be safe than sorry.

My experience
Well my father drove me to Kelantan with my grandfather starting from 6am in the morning using the new GERIK highway. You can easily find that on net or GPS.(Use your smart phone well) Some of my friends actually go there by bus, some by flight but most are with their parents, some brave ones actually went by themselves and stay in their malay friend's house over there!(1 Malaysia spirit)
Before that I already get some news that who register first will go in for the interview first and that was true.First come first serve. We have a seat in the front row and was then conducted by an officer in charge to a ward with air conditioners to have our interview.
Now the interview begins!
13 of us went into 10-13 interview rooms in the teaching hospital. So actually everyone of us get a room for us to choose, it depends on your luck. I choose a room and sit outside for them to call me in. It just 'cost' us a few minutes for the doctor to greet me in.
There were two interviewers in the room. Both of the interviewers were doctor and professor. Well I actually did not get nervous and I wonder why. Maybe it was because the cool atmosphere and two doctors who actually been really friendly. As usual I greet them and called them doctors(of course) . Then they actually asked me where I have lunch! ^^ We have chit chat for a while before they asked several questions
Tell me about yourself.(almost everyone gets this)
1. Why you want to be a doctor?(better be an honest answer)
2. Why you choose USM?(Find it in the internet)
3. What is Apex?(do some homeworks and you will be fine)
4. What is integrated curriculum system?(I actually get myself into trouble by mentioning this during the interview luckily I guess it correctly in the end..wow)
5. If you fail once then what will you do. (They asked a lot about this and luckily I am not nervous and 'brain blank' during that time)
6. How many campus are there?(This was still ok cause I actually done a lot of homeworks)
7. which one is the 'University of Garden'?(oh my, when I get this I just gave them a smile and say I am not sure and I gotta give an guessed answer)
8. Why didn't you choose any other specialist except ophthalmologist?(I gave them an really honest answer, and they are satisfied.whew )
9. When are you getting married?(Luckily on a forum the senior tell about this.So I did not have a heart attack. I just answered the right guy just didn't appear yet. Then they actually asked when it did what will you do and you are in the 2nd year of medical course.haha)
++ my friends got who is your idol. Why you admire them? How do they look? and something like that, so prepare for the fun!
10. Then this is the best part. They gave me a situation and wanted me to read the question loud in malay and answer in malay.
~Your friends in 2nd year medical was having a romance during their studies and decide to have a marriage at the end of the semester.(something like that) and they come and ask your opinion. What will you tell them?
++luckily I can answer this question. and make a lots of laughter that makes the room very comfortable and I like it.
* Some other questions like
1. your friend is pregnant and decide to have an abortion. She comes to you for help. What will you act?
2. There is a group of HIV patients that include carriers, government decides to place them in an isolated island. What is your opinion?
After that there will be another test like the Munsyi's so there's no big nervous as we did a hundreds of it during our matriculation time in the counseling room! Just be honest they will know when you cheated. It can be done in a couple of 10-15minutes.
So the question is really random and it needs your logic thinking to solve these problems.
The most important is that you have confidence in yourself no matter what happens.

Acceptance into USM depends a lot on your interview,don't get nervous about how your results turns out.(as long as it is above 3.9-4.0(matriculation) is ok) Just try your best and be yourself. that should help you to get a place in that uni.
The interview language really depends on the interviewer.When they ask english reply in english, when they ask in malay then answer them in malay. Some of them may request to answer them in malay if you reply them too much english.
